SBR Sponge Gaskets

A.J. Rubber & Sponge Ltd.'s SBR sponge gaskets and seals are manufactured using an elastomeric co-polymer that consists of a combination of styrene and butadiene (styrene butadiene rubber, or SBR). Other terms typically used for SBR (styrene butadiene rubber) sponge gaskets and seals within the cellular rubber products industry are buna-S, buna S and GRS. Our SBR sponge gaskets and seals are highly resistant to abrasion, and provide excellent stability over a range of environments and applications, such as footwear soles and heels, and pneumatic tubes and tires. Other features of our SBR sponge gaskets and seals include:

  • Elongation percentage of between 450–500%)
  • Highly resistant to mineral, synthetic and natural oils, fats, aliphatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Recommended temperature range of -40°C to 100°C (-40°F to +212 °F)
  • At a temperature of around -55°C (131°F) it transitions into glass (otherwise known as the "glass transition temperature")

Although A.J. Rubber & Sponge Ltd.'s SBR sponge gaskets and seals are very versatile, they are not recommended for any type of electrical application, as they are not very resistant to sunlight, ozone, rain or other types of extreme weather.
